Navajo-Churro Sheep
United States, New Mexico

This sheep is hardy, adaptable, disease resistant, long legged and fine boned. The meat has a delicate, sweet, lean flavor. It is descended from the Churra, an ancient Iberian breed introduced to North America by the Spanish in the 1500s. The Navajo-Churro is considered endangered by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. Only 2000 sheep are now registered with the Navajo-Churro Sheep Association.
